1. Clean-up & Repairs being scheduled now.
If anyone would like to volunteer, we'd love to hear from you.
2. BIG NEWS!
Who is responsible for repairs to the run? After many years, we have the definitive answer: NYU. We found
the
paper trail, filed in 1979 with the City Planning Commission. The critically important documents confirm,
"NYU
is committed to rebuild and physically maintain the Mercer Street strips." The basic agreements,
reached
between New York University and the community, are set forth in a resolution passed by Community
Board #
2.
This was subsequently filed with the Board of Estimate.
With this information, the MHDRA Board sent a letter to President Sexton. It asked him to honor the
commitment NYU made and acknowledged. It also reminded him that repairs and maintenance have been
long overdue.
We hope he agrees that the run needs to be kept both as a safe and vital facet of the community! We'll update
you as the NYU 2031 expansion plans develop.
3. The MHDRA Board is working
with the task force and neighborhood groups to ensure our place in the future expansion of NYU's "super
blocks." Let us know if you're interested in more information! |
